JAVA?

I am reading a lot about the holes in Java.  Will Sophos suffice if I leave Java on?  I tried turning it off but it seems 1/2 the internet won't work.

Thanking you in advance,

Are you sure you're not talking about JavaScript rather than Java? Java isn't even installed by default on Lion and Mountain Lion and very few people seem to notice. JavaScript, which is not what the warning is about, is part of many, if not most web pages and could cause the problem you're having if you turn it off. If you're using the NoScript extension, for example, you'd be amazed at how many parts of a web page rely on JavaScript and how much that NoScript blocks in the interest of safety has to be turned on to get the page to work.
