Kernel Panics in Mountain Lion 10.8.2 (Sophos Mac Home Edition 8.0.6C)

Hi there:

I've been having regular, often hourly, system crashes that start off with one program (e.g.. Firefox) not responding, which then spreads through to other programs. Force Quitting does not work, and requires a forced restart.

They're probably *kernel panics*: Crash Report (below) traces the problem to InterCheck / Sophos

I hoped that a 10.8.2 update and / or clean install might have made a difference. It hasn't.

The problem sometimes, though not always, occurs with Time Machine Backups, so I've excluded Time Capsule/Data, but to no avail.

I'd appreciate any advice, but I've had to uninstall for the moment as I'm losing too much work time, and am using ClamXav until the 8.0.7 update arrives.

With thanks in advance.

  • Could you post a redacted panic log?  That would give a bit more insight into what might be happening.

You may also want to try the standard tests of disabling live protection, then disabling archive scanning from on-access scans, and see if either of these two things help.
