Protection for Mac using windows application

Hi

I've just got a new Mac and I am looking for Anti Virus protection. I have to use one application that is windows based via bootcamp. It requires a web download from a safe website .

Sophos seems ideal but I have a couple of questions:

Will it protect the computer when it is in windows mode?

Will it allow me to download the files I need to use? - I have had problems downloading files in the past with Norton anti-virus.

Thanks in advance for your help

    Hi!

    To answer your questions:

    1) If you reboot into Windows, SAV for Mac won't be running, so it will not protect your computer.  When you reboot into OS X, it will detect malware installed while running Windows.  You'd be better off to get a secondary AV for use while running Windows, however.

The general rule is to run one AV package per operating system.

    2) This depends; if the files you need to use are malicious in some way (will harm your computer, steal data, are compressed/encrypted/obfuscated using non-standard methods common to malware but unused by virtually everyone else), then we will prevent the file downloads too.  If the files are not malicious or dodgy in any way, there should be no issues with downloading.
