Complete Update Same as Original

Starting with Sophos Anti-Virus version 9.0.8 in the About box and v 9.0.1 showing in Get Info for Sophos in the Applications folder, I did my morning "Update Now" and downloaded maybe 40 KB. Then I cloned the Mountain Lion boot drive to another partition and upgraded the clone to Mavericks 10.9.3 now that it's been released. Booting from that, I forced an update to Sophos that was running on that clone and downloaded nearly 140 MB of data.

Checking for a new version, About Sophos showed no change except for the number of threats protected against. Sophos in the Applications folder stayed at v 9.0.1 also.

Just curious, but if nothing changed except the threat signatures, what was in the 140 MB download?

  • The files could have been re-written to disk during the cloning/upgrading.  SAU (AutoUpdate) would check what wrote the files and how they have been written and if it didn't like something it would flush the lot and download them again.

  • Thank you. That makes sense and it's better to be safe than sorry.

Since I force the first Sophos update when I boot up, I get to watch the download size and progress so I was curious about the obvious makeover.
