Mavericks vs Sophos AV, according to Apple

Apple has posted a warning here that "Sophos Anti-Virus on-access scanner versions 8.0 - 9.1 may cause OS X Mavericks to unexpectedly restart (kernel panic)." Since that has never happened to me, I was surprised to see this. And it sounds like the solution offered is surgery on the Sophos AV installation.

BTW, how does one get Sophos AV 9.1?

    We are aware of issues affecting a small number of users.  We will continue to work with Apple and any affected users to resolve these issues.

    Version 9.1 is available under Sophos Cloud and will be available to Home Edition users in due course.
