Mac Free Sophos update/uninstall

I could not update my sophos for Mac so I drag and dropped it in the trash can thinking I could  download the latest version , but now when i try to  download the latest version and install, a message comes up saying I have another version(which i put in the trash can) and this version is incompatible and I need to remove the version(which i put in the trash can), and thus i can not download sophos. Sophos no longer show in my apps.

Can you help please. I have Mac os x 10.6.8

  • Ironically, the same thing has happened to me. But I think we both screwed ourselves by doing this. I even tried restarting my computer, and the darn thing still won't let me install. I'm going to try and install another version, if possible, to see if it is just this version that we cannot use.

    I have Mac 10.5.8.

  • AH! I think I figured it out kuulaa. Try looking on you mac in the "library" folder. I did, and I found a Sophos file there. Delete that file and you should be able to load the new sophos.

  • I can not find my library folder. I have os x 10.6.8

    Thank you for your help.

  • Please read the answers in the numerous other threads on this topic, removing sophos anti-virus.  The product CAN be removed by hand, but it's not easy, and you need full administrator access and a good knowledge of how the operating system works to do it.  Much simpler to run the provided uninstaller.

  • Thank you. I will try to download the uninstaller from Sophos.

  • Please read my response to the other thread: the uninstaller is not something you download; it's something that you've already got in the Applications folder if you installed SAV.

  • A to this uninstall would be nice. A link to previous thread you mentioned would be nice. I keep seeing your responses, Andrew. you seem to like to refer to other links without ever providing links.

Hi Richardz. In your applications folder there should be a program called Sophos Uninstaller. If they are not there now, or the uninstaller fails to work (As some items were dragged to the bin) the easiest way is to reinstall Sophos. This will then reinstall you the uninstaller which should work properly.

    Good luck!

  • I've read the previous posts and the advice for uninstalling Sophos.

Like the others, I thought I was de-installing the trial program when I dumped the Sophos files in my library.

Unfortunately this seems to have removed the "uninstall" program.

So I tried to re-load Sophos, thinking it would come with a new un-install application.

But the website won't let me download the trial version on my Mac because it sees a previous version already installed.

    So I can't un-install and I can't re-install.

    Any suggestions?
