Installation Failed

I am having problems with the install. The program was previously installed and working fine until one day the shield disappeared. I started it manually from the file in the library and tried to do a manual update. It failed so I ran the uninstall from the library, downloaded a new copy, installed and got all the way to the summary screen where I get:

"The Installation Failed. The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."

Tried to run a second install and it failed too. Another bit of information is that Sophos actually shows up in my applications in spite of this. I can open it, run scans, etc. The problem though, if I open the updater which puts the shield in my menu bar, click update now, it says that it is updating, but the program crashes.

    When did you last download the installer from the website?  The packages should now be at 7.2.4, which could explain why you're having issues installing 7.2.2.

    As of right now, the following are the up-to-date versions:

    Sophos Anti-Virus 7.2 HE: 7.2.4C

    Threat detection engine: 3.16.1

    Threat data: 4.62

    Release date: February 7, 2011

    What happens if you attempt to "update now"?  It should self-update the system to 7.2.4 for you (assuming the upgrade engine components are still installed correctly).
