I am wondering Sophos could have affected the running of Thunderbird? I am running Thunderbird 8 on an iMac with MacOS X 10.6.8. Recently I installed Sophos Anti Virus 7.3.5C. I have two accounts on Thunderbird, Home Account and Paul's Email.
Thunderbird recently began acting strangely in that emails sent from Home Account were being copied into Paul's Sent folder and then re-appeared in the Home Account Inbox. The emails were, however, correctly sent and replies came back correctly.
I checked the settings for both accounts and the only anomaly I could see was that Home Account's Sent mail setting was for copies to be placed Paul's Sent folder. I tried to change that, but was not given the option of setting Home Account, so I left it at Other. The same was true of Archives, Drafts and Templates.
At some point while making these changes, the Home Account displays and folders all disappeared, leaving only Paul's Email.
However, when I select Get all new messages, Thunderbird still looks for new mail on both accounts and if it finds any for Home Account, it displays them in Paul's Inbox!
All the profile files for both accounts (held in Users/paulfburton/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/8d8j1xzt.default/Mail/) appear to be intact.
I cannot be certain that these problems are linked to the installation of Sophos Anti-virus, but is it possible that Sophos has affected Thunderbird? If so, can anyone suggest a solution? Grateful for any help!
