Hello
When SOPHOS first introduced the free product I decided to try it. Because it tried to scan my Time Machine back-up as well as my hard disk, it took seemingly forever to scan. It also seemed to mess up my Time Machine so I had to wipe my external hard drive and start over. I then removed SOPHOS AV.
I was recently 'persuaded' to utilise a product called 'MacKeeper' (Google!) which said it included an AV facility. I tried it and discovered that my machine performed badly so I went to the Apple support communities forums to seek advice. Many comments there suggested that MacKeeper itself was a Trojan Horse!!!
So - I have wiped my iMac and re-installed a fresh copy of Lion, downloading directly from Apple. I've saved all data from my external hard drive to a completely new, separate, external hard drive. I have wiped my 1TB WD 'My Book' and started afresh with my Time Machine back-ups.
I've also installed the SOPHOS AV once again (for which I thank you!).
Will I experience any problem THIS time with the AV wishing to scan my Time Machine back-up?
