Goodbye Sophos - hello Avast.

I've finally uninstalled Sophos and won't be using it again. I'm grateful that the developers make it a free app but it's caused me too many hassles recently with the constant updating that never stops, on access scan constantly being greying out and trying to do a full system scan takes hours and hours just to calculate the files to scan before it scans anything, and always the suggested solution is either to reboot or remove and reinstall. That's not how an app should be, free or not! So I've switched over to Avast which is working perfectly at the moment (of course only time will tell if it stays like that).

Thanks again for the work Sophos does to make this free but much more needs to be done before I'd consider switching back to it, unless someone convinces me otherwise!!

  • Update - have been using Avast for nearly 4 months now without a single hitch, and not once have I needed their forum. But here's something - was recently having problems installing the new 10.8.3 update and ended up doing large maintenance procedures prior to getting 10.8.3 to install. One of the maintenance/clean up programs I used is called AppleJack. I was amazed to see how many .xml files from sophos it removed as part of its cache cleaning. There were hundreds if not thousands, and only sophos, very little else. And this was after having done a full automated clean up using Onyx.

Sophos are you bloating our systems, and is your uninstall not doing a proper job?
