Shield with an "X" in it

Using an iMac running 10.9.5

Just downloaded Sophos Home Edition 9..2.2

Shield in upper right menu is constantly showing an "X" in it.

Have searched database for "Shield" - no help

Have searched videos - no help

What does this mean? Is it working? What do I do?
