Old Sophos nearing retirement day - what to do?

Hi, I'm currently using the Sophos version as installed by IT people at college a couple of years back. It is Version 4.9.42. Recently I've been receiving notices that the product is nearing its retirement date and I will cease to receive any further updates. I read the article the notification sent me to and it appears that the best thing would be to simply install the new free Sophos? However, I have never been good with updating my sw etc. (definitely not on my mac as I had a pc for a long time before) and am not sure what exactly should I do... can anyone help? Do I first need to uninstall the current Sophos? How exactly do I do this? Is there anything else that needs to be done prior to installation of the new program? Any advice will be much appreciated...

  • Hello,

if you are still at the college you should ask "your IT people" whether and when they will roll out the new version or if they will drop support. Note that the HE is for "personal" use and if your college has a Sophos license the Mac version is included (and should be provided).

If you "have to" switch to the HE please uninstall the licensed version first (see the NOTE in the Mac OS X chapter of this article).
