Problem with manual cleanup - unable to locate file

Sophos detected a threat on my computer a few days ago and was unable to clean it up automatically. It seems to be something called "vindinstaller," or OSX/FkCodec-A. I tried to start a custom scan following the instructions Sophos gives online, but I can't locate the file when prompted to do so, despite using "command-shift-period" to show hidden files. The file path is: Volumes/macshop/macshop.app/Contents/MacOS/vindinstaller

The "Reveal In Finder" button in the Quarantine Manager also is not working. It worked the first time I clicked it, but I closed the window it opened because I wasn't sure what to do with the file at that point, and it wouldn't delete when I moved it to the trash. Now it seems like it's completely impossible to find again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - this has been very frustrating.

  • After restarting my computer, that threat actually had disappeared from Quarantine manager as well. I ran a second scan just to be sure, and there was one threat detected - it wasn't the "vindinstaller" that was originally found (it was something like Vidx), but it was also called OSX/FkCodec-A. I clicked clean-up threat for that file, and this time it worked just fine!

Just out of curiosity, is it likely that the original file was removed by some other security system on my laptop? Or could it have been somehow linked to the second file that was found?
