Scan been running for 4 days - plea how do I stop it and restart

Welcomed Sophos with open arams afer finding a horrible threat to my mac. But... the scan has been running now for almost 4 days. I can stop it - I have used the QM to remove a few threats and removed a copy of a memory stick that was causing grief - but obviously it is scanning my Time Machine too and keeps bringing up the threat. I did not set the scan to run only on my Hard Drive which obviously I should have done. I just cannot get it to stop so that I can re run it correctly.

Kill the scan by quitting the SophosAVAgent from Activity Monitor. Example:

If you don't see the process ensure all processes are selected from the View menu. Example:

Then, as you mentioned, you can set up the scan so the Time Machine is excluded. Example:
