Sophos Anti-Virus Error/Sophos Anti-Virus Error is not running

I have a MacBook Pro running OS X version 10.5.8/build 9L31a. I know that the OS is old, but this is a "hand me down" I cannot afford to upgrade and it runs fine. I found a link on a forum for Sophos for older Mac OS's. As suggested, I downloaded Sophos version 8.0.23c/engine 3.50.1/data 4.98. When I start my MBP Sophos starts and runs for approxomately 5 minutes and then I get A Sophos Anti-Virus Error Sophos Anti-Virus Error is not running. I read that Sophos runs in the background and I've looked for logs or something to tell me why it stops running, but have has no luck. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately SAV for Mac only supports Mac OS X 10.6 or higher.

Unfortunately SAV for Mac only supports Mac OS X 10.6 or higher.
