Help needed for Home Mac user using SOPHOS Version 9.0.8

Hi there, can anyone please advise why when I run a full scan using SOPHOS does it not complete the scan, it freezes at 247,258 remaining files to scan..? I downloaded SOPHOS because I inadvertently click on a phishing email, the next thing I know my email provider detected suspicious activity on my account. I'm not sure if my Mac has been infected with any malicious attacks...? can someone advise? thanks.

    The scan is probably working, but the front-end interface looks like it has stopped.  To help the scan along you should ensure external volumes are excluded and also uncheck the scanning of compressed files...
