Sophos stalled on Mal/Delf-EP threat removal for over 18 hours

my sophos picked up a  Mal/Delf-EP threat on an email yesterday, it said it could be cleaned up so I clicked on the lock and authenticated. The screen shot jpg I'm attaching is what it has been stuck on now for over 18 hours, I have tried to shut down my mac but it says I can't do that while sophos is running and I cannot action sophos to do anything else, it's like everything is jammed.

Could you please advise,

Thanks
Elaine Powell

  • Can you open 'Activity Monitor' from Spotlight (click the magnifying glass in the top right corner and type 'Activity Monitor').  Then locate the Sophos Anti-Virus process and quit it?

I'd then suggest you reboot just to make sure your computer can do it.

Regarding the cleanup you are probably better either locating the file on disk ('Reveal in Finder') and remove it from there.  However the recommended method is to open you email application and locate the message itself and delete it from inside the program.  Be aware that if you have web mail the message *may* still be on the server and could be downloaded to the local mail application again.  Hence you could login into your web mail and delete the message from there to stop that from happening.
