Bricked Mac!

Sophos has bricked my MacBook Pro a few days after installation. How can I
deactivate/unload/remove Sophos from the command line in single user mode?
The effect of:

Sophos Anti-virus on-access kext activated

is to hang my machine indefinitely (even in Safe Mode). Is my only solution
to reinstall the OS and lose everything.

  • Hello whitingbf,

Are you sure you are booting into safe mode correctly? Because it should not load kernel extensions nor startup items. See Apple's KB article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564

To prevent the on-access scanner from starting at boot time, remove the file /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.sophos.intercheck.plist then reboot. If this doesn't solve your problem, its not related to our software.
