Version 7.2.2 released – fixes NTFS, DMG and Bootcamp issues

Version 7.2.2 (engine 3.14.1) of Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Home Edition has been released. It contains fixes for the following:

  • DEF65406: Kernel panic when scanning NTFS volume. This works around a  bug in Apple’’’’s NTFS kernel extension (Apple Bug ID# 7202356) which can result in a kernel panic when information is requested on a resource fork for a file on an NTFS partition.
  • DEF51881: Misclassification of certain DMG files leading to slow scanning, excessive memory and disk space usage. The DMG files are now classified correctly.

The two defects above could have caused instability while using "Scan Local Drives"  on systems with Bootcamp partitions or containing certain type of DMG files. With the 7.2.2 fixes in place, "Scan Local Drives" operates as intended without the need to create a custom scan to exclude Bootcamp partitions and/or DMG files. Scanning large DMG files may, naturally, take some time but should not lead to system instability.

Please note that all existing installations have been upgraded automatically. You need do nothing. However, to confirm that the upgrade has happened, check the "About" button, and you should see something like:

Version: 7.2.2C,

Threat detection engine: 3.14.1

Threat data: 4.60

spike.
