2 sophos shields in menu bar/mac really slow

i've tried twice to install sophos 8 on my brand new mac mini and it seems to bogg it right down. opening any window for the first time takes ages. i open system prefs and it takes 15 seconds to open for example. there is also two little shields with the "s" in it in the taskbar. i only have one version of sophos installed. what's up? i have no third party software running at all, and it's a clean fresh install of OS 8.

First step: try disabling Live protection and see if that helps.
For the "two shields" issue, please check the other threads on this forum for possible causes and solutions.

if i disable live protection, will i still have automatic protection? the guid isn't very clear about this function.

Yes; disabling Live Protection will not affect on-access scans; it just means that files will not be checked against the live database and will only be tested by the latest downloaded detection data.

Log in as administrator!
Go to: System Preference -> Users Account -> Select admin account -> Log-in -> Select any Sophos auto start-up item and hit the "-" button.
So now, after a restart of your system, the double icon issue will be solved!
