Sophos auto updates - schedule a specific time?

Is it possible to schedule a specific time of day when Sophos downloads its regular updates?

I'm finding that my system slows down considerably when the auto update starts. I see in the preferences I can change how often the updates happen (every day, etc.), but is there a way to schedule the time of day when those auto updates happen?

Thanks in advance.

  • Hello galfromaway,

my system slows down considerably when the auto update starts

is this in every cycle (1 hour with the default settings) when it just checks or only when it actually updates (i.e. has one or more IDEs to download)? As you've seen yourself you can only set an interval, but maybe you can work around the problem as I've suggested  in Re: How much bandwidth does an update consume? Can I schedule/approve downloads?.

  • Hi Christian.

It seems to slow down every time it updates, and slows down a great deal (when the icon has the animated arrow going). Is there a way to tell how many updates have to be downloaded? I've changed the interval to every three days, just so I can get some work done first thing in the morning when the updates would normally happen.

So when I change the interval from 1 day to 3, the computer will do the update at the time when I've changed things? That's good to know -- that will help with things a little bit.

    Thanks. :)

  • I too am finding Sophos updates are slowing my computer and would like default time for updates to be at night eg 2am.

If missed could the update be scheduled for an hour after login? That way I should be able to get on with urgent tasks immediately on login.

    Many thanks
