Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac V7.3.1 is compatible with Mac OS X Lion

Apple just launched their latest operating system OS X 10.7 (Lion) today and we wanted to let you know that your version of Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac already supports it.

In anticipation of the Lion launch, we released an update at the end of June that automatically upgraded SAV for Mac to v7.3.1. This version is compatible with OS X Lion so whenever you upgrade to Lion, you’’’’ll be fully protected.

If you are a home user and don’’’’t have Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac already installed, or have not been upgraded to v7.3.1, you can download the latest version for free here: http://www.sophos.com/freemacav

    Lemon,

I am hoping that Sophos figures out a fix for this soon. I'm sure they will as I find it to be a lot less processor hungry compared to VirusBarrier. I'm guessing this was an oversight because it only occurs when doing the Time Machine backups off of a network drive.

hahahahh yeah. I already de-installed intego. It is a shame how these anti-virus app's are sometimes worse then those viruses.....

Increadible. First sophos anti-virus almost overheated my computer. Wich can be a real bad thing and can dammage your computer beyound repair. And then intego blocks those viruses so well that not-a-thing works anymore in connection with net-work drives!

Myybe no-virus protection on a Lion mac is best...????? brrrr

  • I'm not trying to jump on the Sophos/Lion hate bandwagon or anything, but I've noticed that Intercheck is using almost twice as much virtual memory as before.  Is this normal?

Before upgrading, iStat would display the MEM gage as appearing almost empty.  Now, even after a reboot with nothing new (other than the OS) installed, my gage has instantly shot up to approximately half, and my computer runs a bit more sluggish.

I'll try doing a reinstall of SAV, maybe that'll do the trick?

Disable it for a while untill it is fixed. I have confirmed that the same problem will happen with every back-up that time machine performs. You could also disable time machine to manual back-up just after you disable Sophos. Then you can enable sophos again after back-up.

I for myself have disabled Sophos. The problem already appeared under 10.4 as it seems, some years ago. Sophos should do their homework a little bit better. You are now warned that such a fault can really damage your computer!

  • I'm a little dissappointed that neither company has launched a patch for this issue yet. Apple should have 10.7.1 out already with the way Lion runs. I fear this is our VIsta.

  • @lyoko37 to be fair, Apple already seeded 10.7.2 to developers to test iCloud, that probably implies a 10.7.1 in the next weeks .

Besides lion is so new that there are no threats yet (???????!!!!)

    At least lets hope...

  • I have since started more than 10 times again, and after every reboot the same message comes.

    What is a "clean reboot"?

    :1003561
  • Lion has introduced a "resume" feature that is on by default.  When you shut down or reboot/restart, the dialog box asks if you'd like to "Reopen Windows When Logging Back In?"   In order to prevent all your software/windows from starting back up after you restart, you need to disable this.  That's what I was referring to as a "clean reboot".  Holding down the Shift key while starting will disable some more features, such as non-essential kernel extensions and login items.

  • Can anyone who is experiencing the issue with InterCheck and Time Machine confirm whether or not their On-access scanning preferences are configured to scan "Files on network volumes"? And if it is enabled, does disabling it allow the TM backup to complete?

    Thanks,

    Alex

  • I had external drives included. So TM writings to that disk would be checked by Sophos immediately. I will give it a try with external discs excluded. However should I also exclude my iDisc? I can see it in the preferences as oject to be excluded, but if it was also checked before I excluded it, it could too bring trouble.
