Newbie With Questions

1.   Can't tell if Sophos is active.  Icon in dock and menu bar are both blue on the borders and letter but whitish in the inside.  Dock icon turns black only when you click on it and hold for a second.  Sophos is updating hourly.

2.   Can only scan when Live Protection is disabled.

3.   Am not able to setup a scan schedule as everything is grayed out.

Am running Mountain Lion with Sophos Version 8.0.6C.

Would appreciate any help that can be suggested.  Thanks.

  • The Menu bar is the bar along the top of the screen -- at the right hand side of it are a number of icons, including a volume icon, the time, Time Machine, and WiFi icons.  Next to those should be a line drawing of a shield with an S in the middle, in black, just like the rest of them.

If on-access scanning is not active, instead of an S, that shield will have an X through it, or will be all grey instead of black.

What happens when Live Protection is enabled that prevents you from scanning?  Remember that Live Protection requires a live network connection, as it's checking with the Sophos servers to see if suspicious items are in fact malicious.

To set up a scan schedule, you must be logged in as administrator, and have clicked the "Enable schedule" checkbox.  At this point, you should be able to select the days and times to initiate the scan.

Note that scheduled scans are for custom scans, and don't work for "Scan Local Drives".
