On my iMac after I upgraded to version 8.x I have been unable to complete a scan. I have around 4.3 million items. What happens is the scan quits in the middle of a scan.

Sme here - it scanned for 2 days. Although it was supposed to be a local scan - the threats were some deleted files which were stored on my Time Machine hard drive. Quarantine Manager said it would remove them but then said I had to do it manually.. When I tried to remove them from the Time Machine - it said I couldn't interfere with BackUps. So then I told it to ignore the LaCie Hard Disk.. Started up again on the scan - long scan.. 2 days.. Would you believe it scanned the LaCie again!! . So I tried specific custom scans - My home Folder 4 hours later it is still counting items - which seems strange cos the total scan counted items in about 20 minutes..
I really suspect that this is not working and I guess we just have to thankfully accept that there are no real problems on mac. The two files found were .exe files which do not effect Macs.
I just downloaded the software for my Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion 10.8. The scan runs through about 50% of my files then quits. I tried to run a custom scan, but it says I can't until I have scanned the whole computer, which it won't allow me to do. When it stops, the dialog box just disappears from the screen and the little black shield icon at the top of the screen disappears. Any suggestions? Thank you!:smileytongue:
I have the same problem that a local scan will not complete. I have tried with auto-updates turned off to avoid a possible issue there and still have the problem. The application crashes part way through the scan and the system produces a system diagnostic report which I can send you if that helps - it is a little large to copy here. It starts as follows:
Process: SophosAVAgent [36004]

It then gives inofmation about all the code threads including the crashed thread 3. Might this help isolate the problem?
Changing the update interval to every 8 hours allowed a scan of my home folder to complete after 2 scans that failed mid-scan. OS X 10.8.2 and Sophos Home.
FWIW the SophosAVAgent continues after it stops updating the GUI as evidenced by Activity Monitor showing it consuming about 25% of CPU and the HD reading at about 25MB/sec, but it is no longer updating the Sophos Anti-Virus GUI.
