Sophos on-access scanning disabled after installing new software

Help - I am running Mountain Lion on a macbook pro.  Yesterday, I installed Photoshop Elements 11.  This morning while when I started working on the computer, I got a message that my on access scanning had been disabled.  Sure enough I looked in the Sophos preferences and it is indeed disabled.  It would not allow me to re-enable it.  I looked through this message board and saw that others had this same problem but never did see an answer.  Does anyone have a clue as to what I can do?  Thanks!

  • I have been following this thread for months. As few posters have stated the problem has been fixed after following various suggested remedies, but new users continue posting the same problem. I have had the problem since prior to 8.0.5c. I am now at 8.0.10c and still receive the error. I have found the easiest "temporary" solution is to run "Update Now" from the dropdown menu, in the Sophos shield, in the menubar. I sometimes have to run it more than once, but usually it will finally state, "Up To Date", after the first or second time. As I indicated, it is only temporary because even without shutting down my MBP "on-access scanning" will become disabled again. I just repeat the same procedure. Doing as I suggest does not always work, but time does. I have seen it start working again even if I do nothing. The problem is while "on-access scanning" is disabled we are not protected. This problem is a real shame because otherwise Sophos Home Edition is a great product. I am grateful that Sophos released the application for Mac and am happy to report that it has actually detected numerous offending files from my clueless Windows friends and spam. I hope Sophos will soon find a permanent solution.

  • This happens to me ALL THE TIME! I have to uninstall/reinstall monthly in order to keep Sophos running.
