Transition to Endpoint Security

Hello and Greetings to Sophos team,

I'm using Sophos Home Edition for my Macbook Pro for past couples of months, recently I have upgraded to Version 8 which also runs smoothly. Now, my university computer department told me that I can also use the Endpoint Security for MAC (I mean the paid version of Sophos) if I like. So, I would like to ask your team

1. Do I need to uninstall Home edition first in order to install the university version?

2. The Home edition collects its updates via Sophos server (login Id and some invisible password); if I change the server location to university server will that work?

3. Is there any additional benefit that I can expect if I make this transition?

Please post your comments.

Best wishes

  • Hi,

We released version 8.0.1 in both the Home Edition format and as the corporate edition on the same day. Nobody has been "forced" to upgrade to v8 yet, and yes its because we want to collect feedback first. As of this morning, there have been more than 75K installations of v8 in the last week, and 83% of these are the Home Edition. We've had very few reports of issues, which is good news. Over the coming weeks we'll be releasing more updates, and (assuming that goes smoothly too) over the next few months we will start automatically upgrading those still running v7.

For our corporate users we will continue to offer v7 updates for a few more months, to give them time to gain confidence and to plan the update across their organization.

Also worth mentioning is that the Home Edition and the corporate edition have the same protection features in v8. The difference is that the corporate edition also allows a system administrator to set configuration and manage updates centrally.
