Transition to Endpoint Security

Hello and Greetings to Sophos team,

I'm using Sophos Home Edition for my Macbook Pro for past couples of months, recently I have upgraded to Version 8 which also runs smoothly. Now, my university computer department told me that I can also use the Endpoint Security for MAC (I mean the paid version of Sophos) if I like. So, I would like to ask your team

1. Do I need to uninstall Home edition first in order to install the university version?

2. The Home edition collects its updates via Sophos server (login Id and some invisible password); if I change the server location to university server will that work?

3. Is there any additional benefit that I can expect if I make this transition?

Please post your comments.

Best wishes

  • Hello pauls,

first of all - I'm not Sophos.

Then - your University might not have deployed version 8 yet, you'd have to check with them.

When HE came out I switched several times between HE and the licensed version by simply installing one over the other (but I did not "downgrade" - see above). I haven't tried to change the update location in the HE version (can't test right now - but you have to be able to enter a URL and the full credentials for this to work) - but if you install the university version this doesn't apply anyway.

In terms of protection the products are the same - the licensed version can be centrally managed and support is different (to what extent depends on your IT department though)
