Anti-virus log does not show results of on-access scan

I recently moved to OSX 10.8.4 and made the corresponding change in Sophos to 8.0.15c. On-access scan and live scan are enabled, per their default settings.  While everything seems to work well, the anti-virus log does not show the results of on-access scans--something the Sophos 7 log did.  How can I tell if on-access are being run?

Thanks for your help.

  • Hello arros,

the GUI should display the status (whether it's on or off) of on-access scanning. Are you referring to

    com.sophos.intercheck: Info:    On-access scanner stopped at ...

com.sophos.intercheck: nnnn items scanned, n threats detected, n issues

Indeed it seems this message is sometimes not issued when an update is performed (and the scanner restarted), manually stopping on-access does display it though. Actually the statistic is of limited use (as the numbers won't tell if it scanned everything it should have).

Thus the GUI is the primary indicator, if you are paranoid you can test with EICAR - but at the end of the day there can't be absolute certainty (though I've never heard that it failed to scan an item without a corresponding message when it was on).
