A bit misleading with this one... the SAV program can be quit just fine.  To disable the On-Access and autoupdate portions, you need to disable them via the preferences.  There will always be a persistent monitor process running in the background, but when on-access and autoupdate are disabled, this should not noticeably affect system performance.

I'm curious as to what you mean by 64-bit enhanced... just that all components be 64-bit native?

It is not Intel native or 64 bit.  It's a Universal app running in 32 bit mode.  Still works great and runs pretty fast for me, without interfering with other routine tasks.  I've been managing a Sophos enerprise server for some time, and I mstt say I actually like this home edition more that the enterprise edition we are currently running.  We are one release cycle behind on the enterprise, though.

It works.  It's free.  It's reasonably fast.  Your computer is protected.
