Sophos just quits by itself!

Running 10.8 and have downloaded the latest version of Sophos.

Initially everything is OK, icon in menu bar, software working away in the backround.

After a few hours it's quit. Firing up the S/W again abd I can't put the icon in the menu bar. Retstartng the iMac doesnt help.

So, run Sophos as a normal package. And that then quits after a few hours.

Any thoughts?

Many Thanks - Hugh

  • I'm using Sophos with Mountain Lion, too.

    It seems the problem is just a bug. I found a lot of websites saying the icon in the statusbar dissappers suddenly.

    During the icon dissappears, protection won't work. You can mannually run SophosUIServer.

    //Library/Sophos Anti-Virus/SophosUIServer.app

  • You might want to add SophosUIServer in your log in items.  That way when the icon disappears it will return on a reboot.  I saw the icon indicate it was auto updating this morning, and clicked to show the autoupdate window,  I really didn't see anything that indicated it was polling the server or downloading any updates.  I did check the "About Sophos" took note of the the threat engine of 3.34.0 and threat data of 4.80, and the amount of threats it protects against.  Will see in coming days if they change at all.

  • Have found that by going to finder,selecting Go, MacHD,Library,Sophos

    then dragging the Sphos UI Server to the Dock and keeping it there

    Then when the icon disappears from the task bar I click on the SophosUIiserver in the dock and it returns.

    Well its awork around until its fixed.
