On-access scan self disabled and would not be turn on again

Hello there, I have installed Sophos MacHome AV few days ago on my macbook (OSX 10.6.8) few days ago and today while I was working in Firefox (11.0) a pop-up window appeared, saying that on-access scan had been disabled. Indeed, the S icon in the menu bar was grayed, but when I opened Sophos preferenca panel I would not be offered the possibility of turning it back on. Clicking the restore default button also did not work, all I got was a message saying that preferences for on-access scan could not be restored to factory setting.

It might be just a coincidence, but this happened as soon I had blocked on outgoing connnection using Internet Cleanup (in particular, I blocked ksurl, a process that started to show up ever since I have installed Google Chrome browser).

After rebooting, on-access scan was initialy disabled but went back to normal after about one minute.

Any idea if this was just an oddity or an indication of some problem (compatibility, may be?) in my specific architecture?

same here. happened after sophos updated itself. anyone have another fix?

On access scnaning issue has gotten progressively worse with newer updates. just tried the remove and reinstall work-around, which worked the last time. No such luck, this time. Icon was black while downloading update after reinstall, but disappeared during the updating process and reappeared greyed out.
Mac OS 10.6.8, 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM. All current Apple updates installed except iTunes (they keep making my iPods obsolete).

Same here...
Fixed by SHUT-DOWN then RE-START.
PS: my ABOUT info displays VERSION 8.0.8.1C

It seems after the latest update was when the problem occurred that I couldn't change the On Access Scanning to On. Uninstalled Sophos Antivirus with the app and then reinstalled as others had suggested. Fixed problem immediately.
Thanks to those before me for your help, it's greatly appreciated.

Most of the time rebooting works for me.
It does seem to be getting worse though. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the application several times now.
Also, there are several threads about this problem already, might be a good idea to check up on those.
