Sophos Installer gone haywire and caused mass system halt

Well I was trying to install Sophos and it **bleep** well caused my system to go crazy along with sequential freezes and crashes of multiple apps, Firefox included as I had to start over and type this message again.

I can't say I'm pleased with this 'program' and for the time being I had to force-quit it through Activity Monitor that I had opened before starting the installation to make sure nothing went wrong... well it did. I mean what the hell just happened?! Although, as of force-quitting Sophos AV everything has seemingly went well on my system and apparently not caused any more issues so far, though if I restart it, the problems begin again.

  • I have found that the best way to install any type of antivirus is immediately after installing a fresh operating system with all the updates already in place. This is to reduce the possibility that spyware or legitimate programs already installed on your system has not already altered your system files and is causing a rejection to the installation of a antivirus program. Even when old programs are removed, they do not always rename the files involved, back to their orignal name state. I have used Sophos on both Snow Leopard and Lion without incident, and trust Sophos to protect my mac while using a "Lion Box" of tool for penetration testing: Viruses, Trojans, etc.
