USER NAME PASSWORD

Hi All

     I recently installed SOPHOS for the MAC and it looks like it is working. And it looks like it is a good product and I want to thank everyone involved w/it.

     After installation I was going through the Preferences and coming upon AutoUpdate I found a User Name and password that I am unfamiliar with. The User Name looks like it might be a Hexadecimal number(I'm not much of a techie so I'm not sure) and it is 11 characters long and the password(all dots) is 8 characters long and they are both grayed out even after I signed in as Administer so I can't access them. I'm sure I didn't put them in there so I am assuming that it came w/the Package from you guys(I hope). I'm just checking to make sure and to see if I am supposed to be able to access them.Thanks in advance for any answers.

    Hello mrmick,

    this is not a local user on your Mac. These are the credentials for downloading the updates from the Sophos server (actually it's not a single server but a distribution network). They identify which product(s) and their updates you are permitted to download. As this version is free they are pre-configured (requiring the user to type them in after download and install is nothing but an annoyance) and you wouldn't want to change them anyway.

    Hey guys,

    I just recently upodated to 10.7. and I was having this same issue over the last week or two. But the user name and password are not preconfigured on my iMac of Macbook Air. So I keep getting the error, "could not contact the primary server"

    Developing a password system and am curious if the special characters (spaces, brackets etc) are accepted. The only information  I was able to locate mentions that characters outside of the alpha-numberic are not guaranteed to translate the same between lanuguages. 

    In short, coud spaces, brackets, symbols be used in user names and passwords? Thank you for any insight.
