A few questions about Mac Sophos antivirus(free home edition)

Does the antivirus detect othe forms of malware or only Trojans and viruses? Does it detect windows malware as well? Do you know if it detects the malware iexplore.exe?     Ok thanks for the answer Agile, it answered most of my questions exept for one.

    So, i do academic research on my imac for school. That Imac is also used to buy machine parts for my parents work. So would i be allowed to download or? The iMac is at our housed and is generally used for home use though. Only sometimes we do the other things.
