cannot receive updates

My Sophos Virus Removal tool has updated normally until today, when it displays 'failed to update, check internet connection'. I have uninstalled and reinstalled without effect. No changes to PC setup and everything else is working normally. Using Win 7 home premium, avast premier.

Yes I have just had the same experience, looks like the server we were trying to connect to for updates was rejecting us.
Good it all works now

I've just had the same problem I can't update my sophos from my work machine at home. I found this thread and clicked on the link that says "solution" and all it does is open up a new page with the same thread on it ie a copy page but no solution. Please can someone explain why sophos won't update and when I try to update is says "server not found" on my machine. In addition to this I've got one item "direct downloader" in quaranteen on my machine but I can't remove or delete it that option simply isn't available when I click on the item in the quaranteen window. First just how dangerous is "directdownloader" and second how do I get to select it and delete it?
