Cannot Install Software

When trying to install the software I get a message saying that it is unable to install because "another version Sophos anti-virus software, which is not compatible with this version, is already installed". It tells me I must remove it before I can continue. I did have a Sophos program on my computer years ago provided to me by my post-secondary institution but I thought I had removed completely. I cannot find any files or uninstaller from the old program on my computer. 

Does anyone have any idea on how I can continue installing the new software?

    Sophos has a very wide platform coverage, including Windows, Mac, UNIX/linux flavours etc. Yes, they have a Windows version, but this free offer is only for their Mac version.

    However, I believe that the Sophos licence allows employees of companies running Sophos to use the software (on any platform) on their home computers for free - so long as its not on more computers at home than it is at work. You might want to ask someone in your IT department about that.
