Cannot Install Software

When trying to install the software I get a message saying that it is unable to install because "another version Sophos anti-virus software, which is not compatible with this version, is already installed". It tells me I must remove it before I can continue. I did have a Sophos program on my computer years ago provided to me by my post-secondary institution but I thought I had removed completely. I cannot find any files or uninstaller from the old program on my computer. 

Does anyone have any idea on how I can continue installing the new software?

    I have downloaded Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Home Edition.  Can you please help me with 2 questions::

    1) I have Windows Vista - can I still use the above Mac Home Edition?

    2) After downloading, in step 2 of installation, if I double-click the file, I do not get the introduction screen.  I get "Windows cannot open this file" and I tried to "Use the Web service to find the correct program"  I did not get anywhere.  How do I get the introduction screen?
