Consuming huge amounts of disk space during scan

Installed and started scanning a set of files. Had 92 GB free. (275,000 files being scanned).

Within 35 min, was down to 45 GB (273,000 files left).

At 50 min, was down to 30 GB (still around 273,000 files left). File count seemed to not be going down.

Killed the scan with 22 GB and count not decreasing.

Free disk space jumped back to 92 GB.

Something is not right.

Edit: couldn't understand how there were so many files. I have aliases on my desktop (which I was scanning. Does this mean SOPHOS follows the aliases and scans them? Not good if it does.

  • Thanks Andrew.

I know what the aliases are, but I don't agree that they should necessarily be scanned with no option.

These items are already scanned because they are in my Applications folder. Now I do a Desktop scan and they get scanned again. Not very efficient and possibly a waste of time.
