New User- Puzzled by threat found in Time Machine

I am not surprised that a threat on my internal hard drive was copied to Time Machine by regular backups.  But Time Machine does not allow deletion of files from the the backup files, so how can one 'deal with' such a threat? I have deleted the original offending file, so will it disappear from Time Machine as backups continue?

  • Yep.  As Time Machine overwrites the backups the file will eventually be removed.

You could also speed up any scans by excluding the /Volumes/<Time Machine> folder from the scan. If you're running a 'Scan This Mac' scan it would be like this…
