Updating from 7.3 to 8.0.6 when Sophos is provided by Uni

Our university provides access to Sophos for students and staff. I have been using version 7.3 for some time with no problems, but since upgrading my computer to Mountain lion, I have had problems with Sophos and with the computer itself running slow, heating up etc. I have read here that a newer version is needed. However, our university is still only providing the link to the 7.3 installer. Auto update is not loading the new version...Is there any way of getting hold of the new version myself?

Also, I removed the UI login item as I was concerned it was causing conflicts with the OS, as it was using too much CPU. I now have "intercheck" using large amounts of CPU. How do I get rid of it, or fix it?

Thanks

  • I think his question is the same as the one we have here:   We have the "enterprise" version of Sophos -- where we get updates from Sophos directly.

We're all wondering when our 7.3.x installs will automatically update to 8.0.x.    The "fixed" version of 8.0.6 appears to be out (the one that keeps the shield in the menu bar for Mac OSX 10.8 installs), but this is not showing up as an automatic update for 7.3.x installs yet.
