Updating from 7.3 to 8.0.6 when Sophos is provided by Uni

Our university provides access to Sophos for students and staff. I have been using version 7.3 for some time with no problems, but since upgrading my computer to Mountain lion, I have had problems with Sophos and with the computer itself running slow, heating up etc. I have read here that a newer version is needed. However, our university is still only providing the link to the 7.3 installer. Auto update is not loading the new version...Is there any way of getting hold of the new version myself?

Also, I removed the UI login item as I was concerned it was causing conflicts with the OS, as it was using too much CPU. I now have "intercheck" using large amounts of CPU. How do I get rid of it, or fix it?

Thanks

  • Hello Deb_B,

if your university is providing the licensed version (i.e. AutoUpdate is set to download from the university) the have likely deliberately kept it at 7.3 for the time being - you have to check with them why.

You could switch to the HE version by downloading it from the Sophos site - but then it's unmanaged and of course I can't say whether this would be ok for for your university or not.
