Failure to Update

Have two shields with X on menu bar and autoupdate isnt happening.  How do I get rid of one shield and how can I get the update to happen.

mac os 10.8.2

    Have you checked the logs to see why you've got an X?

    My first guess would be that it's having problems with your internet connection (wifi?) and my second that you have a damaged preferences plist file that needs to be manually removed.

    You can search these forums for instructions on how to fix these two (and other possible) problems.
