Unable to upgrade to home edition 9

I have used Sophos for many years and switched to the home edition about two years ago. Trying to upgrade to version 9 results in this message: "An incompatible product is installed. This software cannot be installed over the existing application."

My current sophos software works well but I cannot locate the "uninstall" application anywhere. Apple tech support says that Mavericks (10.9.1) is working well. I encountered the problem while trying to allow java to run for the acrostic puzzle at the New York Times puzzle section. Apple says Mavericks will allow java for this web site but I cannot turn off Sophos to permit this.

I tried to install the newer version of Sophos home edition but to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I still have my old Sophos Enterprise Manager User Names and Passwords.

    Hello Pete,

    switched to the home edition about two years ago ... I still have my old Sophos Enterprise Manager User

    which version is currently installed (see About ...)? If I understand correctly it's still version 8 and thus it should be something like 8.0.23C (the C denotes the HE). If this is the case then please see An incompatible product is installed - ... on the MacHelp board. my old Sophos Enterprise Manager User - written down somewhere or in the Updating Preferences? If the latter it'd not be the HE though (in this case the 'uninstall' would be /MacHD/Library/Sophos Anti-Virus/Remove Sophos Anti-Virus.pkg).
