I have the same problem! I'm running the latest version of Mavericks and Sophos MacHome was behaving strangely so I decided to uninstall. I clicked on 'Remove sophos' in applications and the application disappeared. However, I still have the shield on my toolbar and it is still alive. At first, it sat there with the cross on the shield and it refused to do anything, no updates etc. stating that there was a server error. Now it appears to be back and, I assume, functioning as I've just upgraded but is nowhere to be found on my machine. It's all a bit weird...Can anyone advise?
Download AppCleaner from the Mac App Store. Open AppCleaner. Sophos is in your Applications folder. Pull it out and drop it into the AppCleaner. AppCleaner will pull all the associated files from your Mac. Takes about 2 seconds. Click Delete. Then empty your trash can. Hope this helps! : )
Almost forgot - after clearing Sophos with AppCleaner, before you can empty the trash you'll need to Resart your computer - it's the only way to clear the Sophos marker from your Finder Menu Toolbar. After restarting, you'll then be able to dump the trash, removing all of Sophos. : )
Hi.
AppCleaner is totally useless for removing complex installations.
Try deletung these folders and files if they exist.
/Library/Sophos Anti-Virus folder
/Library/Application Support/Sophos folder
/Library/Application Support/Sophos Anti-Virus folder
/Library/Frameworks/SAVI.framework
/Library/Frameworks/SophosGenericsCommon.framework
/Library/Frameworks/SophosGenericsCore.framework
/Library/Frameworks/SUMScanKit.framework
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.sophos.uiserver.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/ all 'com.sophos' plists
/Library/Extensions/ all . kext files starting 'Sophos'
Reboot
Trying any Mac app cleaner, zapper, remover, 'install-this-app-to-make-that-other-app-go-away-please-as-i-don't-know-where-it-has-put-all-its-files.app' etc. isn't recommended.
See the thread linked below. There is a script you could try - never hear back if that fixed things or the user fell into a black hole and hasn't been able to post a reply. :smileyhappy:
