viewing unsecured content on a secure site

My daughter has Anti-Virus 8.0.6 C installed on her macbook pro, running OS 10.6.8.   She is finding that she can't view unsecured content on a secure webpage with any browser- Safari, Firefox or Chrome. Is it possible for the Sophos software to be blocking the unsecured content?  There are security settings within the Mac OS itself but these appear to be setup correctly.

Thanks in advance for any advice you might be able to give.

  • SAV for Mac only scans data on-disk, which means by the time data from the web browser reaches it, the context of secured/unsecured has already been lost.

Common issues preventing viewing unsecure content on a secure page include having reasonably secure settings in the browser preferences (as secure pages should not be providing unsecured content) but this is usually prevented at the gateway/web proxy level.  Does she have any specific error messages that come up?  Is she attempting to connect via a school, or otherwise locked down network?
