just installed successfully. Repeated scans stop after a few seconds and go no further. this is not helpful.

any suggestions/?

    I downloaded last night and having similar problem, scanner stopping at about 80% through. The little icon on the top bar seems to showing activity but it seems 'hung'. Last time I tried it stopped at about halfway and the macbook froze.

    Scanning inside archives will not progress the progress activity bar.  Likely, you are scanning inside an archive.  Under Preferences, you can turn off scanning inside archives and compressed files; does this cause the issue to disappear?

    Also, do you have external drives connected?  A default local scan will also be scanning all of those, including Time Machine volumes.
