Trojan Horse

I got an e-mail from a trusted friend that included a link inside. I thought it was legitimate and opened it. Next thing I know, the same link was sent out to everyone I know! I downloaded Sophos to specifically find this Trojan horse and remove it, but Sophos DID NOT FIND IT. It showed I had no threats, when I know for a fact I do. What's the point of having Sophos if it can't find such known malware? Is there anything else I can do?

  • What email system do you use?  Mail.app?  Webmail (which one)? Facebook?

What sort of a link was it?  Did it install something visible? Did it link to Twitter or Facebook?

Do you know that your mail system sent out the link, or could it have been sent from a friend of yours who has the same group of aquaintences?

Sophos looks for malware stored on your computer; if the issue is on a remote server, it likely won't find it (although sometimes it detects the cached HTML on your computer).

We'd love to have more details, as we do strive to provide complete protection.
