scanning in sleep mode

It looks as if the local scan stops when my MacBook (OS X 10.5.8) goes to sleep, and starts up again when I wake it up. Is this true, and is there a way to keep it running overnight? I'd like to have it run overnight while I"m sleeping. It takes a really long time (like an hour or more) when I'm using the computer, and it slows the computer down quite a lot.

If you want to keep it running, adjust your computer's sleep settings so that it won't go to sleep while the scan is in progress.
Do I understand correctly that you currently have sleep set to "sleep when inactive?"

If computer sleep is set to never, but display is set to 15 min - will my scan stop when the display sleeps?

No, the computer is still active and so will continue to scan the drive(s).
