What does auto-update update?

I noticed that, sometimes auto update updates not only the virus definitions but part of the application as well but the version of the application remains same.

    Auto-update updates everything -- the key bits that get updated are:

    • IDE updates (happen around 6 times per day)
    • Threat data package updates (happen monthly, and roll the IDE updates into an optimized bundle)
    • Threat detection engine updates (I believe these happen monthly, as-needed)
    • Product updates (Feature releases usually happen approximately every six months, plus point releases for bug/security fixes)

    All of these updates except for the product updates are pushed to all endpoints using Sophos Endpoint Protection -- that includes the Home Edition, and also all other versions for all operating systems and platforms.  Product updates are specific to the product (Sophos Endpoint Protection for Mac doesn't get the same product updates as SAV Mac HE)
