Can you install Sophos when you already have MacScan on the computer?

Will there be any problem installing and using Sophos as a supplement to MacScan or are they incompatable together? I know that with PC's different spyware/virus programs seem to have strengths that others don't so sometimes a mix of two or three seem to keep a good overall protection.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Al

  • Because of the way MacScan works, there should be no trouble running them on the same computer.  However, you'll want to have On-Access disabled in SAV when running a MacScan scan.

You definitely don't want to have two on-access products running at the same time though, as that is a recipe for disaster (meaning kernel-level computer crashes and other hard to track down errors and issues).  If SecureMac adds on-access capabilities to MacScan (not likely, as the software is designed to clean up unwanted files/settings, not actively protect), I would recommend only having one on-access engine enabled.  Since SAV and MacScan for the most part function in a different manner, this is not currently a problem.
